Benjamin Ortega

In 1995, Master Benjamin Ortega started his journey in San Soo with Master Dave Hopkins in Riverside, California, and earning himself his green belt from Dave Hopkins. With a short hiatus, Benjamin started training with Master Mike Moreno and Master Ken Hensley in 2001, both Masters under Dave Hopkins. Master Benjamin began teaching morning and Tuesday night classes as a green belt for Master Ken. After seven years of training, Benjamin Ortega received his brown belt in 2002 and in 2003 received his black belt from Ken Hensley. Master Ken decided it was time for him to part ways and moved to Idaho to open up another school. Working as a doorman and bouncer for local events and pubs, Benjamin made the choice to take on further responsibility as an instructor when Ken Hensley gave the school to him and has been bringing up fighters ever since. Both Master Mike and Master Ken have made a profound impact on Master Benjamin’s San Soo style and philosophy. After 2003, Master Benjamin began training with Master Lari Beebe (a black belt under Gene Lebell and Gokor Chivichyan) and received his 1st to 6th degree in San Soo under Lari until 2010, shortly after his passing. Since 2010, Master Benjamin revisited his roots and began to train with Master Dave Hopkins in Riverside, earning him his 7th and finally his 8th degree black belt. Receiving his Master degree under Dave Hopkins, Benjamin continues train with Master Dave Hopkins and attends their weekly black belt class. In addition to training with his fellow colleagues at Dave Hopkins, Benjamin has further endeavor to expound upon his San Soo fighting with Master William “Bill” Vigil and has brought over some of Bill’s San Soo philosophy into his own classroom. Other instructors who have made an impact upon his teaching and fighting style in San Soo, but not limited to, Master Lee Tagney, Master Kurt Bellman, and Javier Vasquez.

Master Benjamin continues to play an important role in his community and has instructed members of local and federal law enforcement agencies, military personnel, correctional officers (CO), social workers, public school teachers, and the average person who is just looking to learn a realistic combative martial arts system to protect his/herself.

Benjamin is a full time instructor and the head instructor of the Adult Program and the Kids/ Youth Program.
